Volunteer, 2021-present
I have been a volunteer for Elder Help Peel since 2021—telephoning two senior ladies in Brampton once a week. One lives alone in a house and the other one is in a retirement residence. Michelle Di Natale has been a wonderful liaison. She is very supportive and has telephoned me regularly to ask about my experiences and offered practical tips. Michelle is a sensitive listener and projects both empathy and sympathy towards both me and the client and our needs. Finally, she always expresses appreciation of my service, thus keeping me motivated and feeling useful. I am grateful to work for and with Michelle for the welfare of these seniors.

Social Service Worker Program, August 2024
During my placement at Elder Help Peel from January to August 2024, I had the privilege of working under Michelle's supervision. Her guidance allowed me to expand my skills in client support, project management, and leadership. Michelle consistently challenged me with diverse tasks that helped me grow both professionally and personally. She provided invaluable feedback that encouraged me to approach every project with confidence, and her mentorship was instrumental in deepening my understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion practices. My time at EHP, under her supervision, has significantly shaped my approach to social services and strengthened my ability to work in a team.

I am truly grateful for the opportunity, but I was worried because I wasn’t very knowledgeable about what they do. However, Elder Help Peel turned out to be an excellent setting for me to excel in areas such as effective communication, program development for seniors, confidence building and so much more.
My supervisor, Michelle Di Natale is fantastic, and we work collaboratively to achieve our daily goals. My practicum at Elder Help Peel gave me the chance to improve on public speaking, building rapport, interpersonal skills, and proper netiquette. I was also able to attend workshops, interviews, and presentations, all in which I participated which made me feel very included and a part of the Elder Help Peel family. I became more confident in speaking to others and stepping out of my comfort zone.

As a second-year student in the Social Service Worker Gerontology program at Sheridan College, I was recommended to have my field practicum at Elder Help Peel. I’m so happy that I listened to that recommendation as I have been able to have the best field practicum experience.
I’ve been able to have an amazing supervisor who I would report to and would give me tasks that helped me grow and refine my skills. I’ve been able to grow in confidence, interpersonal skills, professionalism and building trusting relationships with colleagues and clients.
